Banks Prevented Thefts of Nearly 1.9 Trillion Rubles in Q2

On August 4, the Central Bank of Russia reported that in the second quarter of 2026, banks thwarted 17.5 million attempts at fraudulent transactions totaling nearly 1.9 trillion rubles. Compared to the first quarter, both the number of attempts and the volume of prevented thefts increased by more than 4%.
This indicates that fraudulent activity remains very high even despite the strengthening of banking protection systems. For the market, "Will the damage from fraudulent operations in Russia exceed 15 billion rubles in 2026?" this is an important signal: the attempts alone are already in the trillions, although the actual damage is significantly lower than the amount prevented.
